Couples Photography Session in the Swiss Alps: Hiking in the Illiez Valley with A+C
Mountains, Rain, Photography & Hiking : Let Yourself Be Insipired by A+C’s Swiss Adventure
Some shoots stay with you. A+C’s couples photography session in the Illiez Valley (Switzerland) will forever be etched in my memory—not just for the location, but for the people, the energy, and the wild beauty of the day.

Searching for a couples photographer in Switzerland who values adventure, connection, and nature above all? You might’ve just found your match.
I’m a Switzerland-based couples and elopement photographer who believes that your love story deserves more than stiff poses and perfectly still backdrops. I believe in movement, emotion, and the kind of moments that happen when you forget there’s even a camera around. I photograph couples in the mountains because that’s where I feel most at home—and where many couples feel their truest selves. Whether you’re eloping in the Alps or dreaming of a quiet shoot tucked away in a lesser-known valley, I’ll help you plan an experience that feels natural, meaningful, and entirely yours. Planning a Couples Photography Session in the Illiez Valley/ Switzerland: Hiking Trails, Rainy Beginnings, and the Ability to Improvise
A+C and I road-tripped together to the Illiez Valley, about an hour and twenty minutes through winding roads, alpine villages, and breathtaking views. From the very start, there was a calm joy to our day – despite the gray clouds getting nearer and nearer as we drove. It was the kind of happiness that comes when you’re doing something for the fun of it—not to perform, but to simply be together. We chatted about life, their story, and the excitement of creating something beautiful, even if the weather had other plans.
Choosing Our Location
Our first planned location in the Illiez Valley was completely shrouded in fog. I love a moody session, but in this case we couldn’t even see the nearby trees! While I usually love a bit of mist, it felt like too much—like the landscape had entirely disappeared. I had planned for this and had prepared a backup location, so we made a choice: drive higher, hike a little farther, and see what we find. That’s what this kind of photography is all about! Being flexible. Being open. Letting nature lead.
So we did. And it was so worth it.

The Couples Shoot
We hiked for a few hours—through damp trails, under fog-draped pines, and up into higher alpine meadows. The rain had softened into a gentle drizzle. We saw cows wandering through the grass, their bells echoing in the distance. Finally, we reached a quiet spot above a lake, with a panoramic view of the surrounding peaks. Even though the mountains peeked in and out of the mist, the entire landscape felt like it had been painted for them. It was intimate and surreal, the kind of scenery that holds you still for a moment.
They wore hiking boots with their outfits, a combo that never gets old for me. We laughed, we took breaks under trees, and they danced and posed in the rain. It didn’t feel like a photo session — it felt like a shared adventure. A+C were present with each other in a way that made everything else fade. No weather, no pressure, just love, laughter, and the rhythm of the trail beneath our feet. Those are the moments I love to capture — when the photos become a reflection of who you really are together.
Why Rain Doesn’t Ruin a Couples Shoot
One of the biggest myths in photography is that you need perfect weather for beautiful photos. But rain? Rain brings its own kind of magic. It softens the colors of the landscape, adds texture to the sky, and invites closeness, all of which help in creating stunning photographs. There’s a certain intimacy that only rain can create — the way people huddle together, the way they move with care, the way they feel. A little fog and a lot of love can go a long way. And, it gets rid of the crowds!
Plus, you never forget the sessions where you embrace the unexpected. A rainy hike turns into a story you tell for years, and that energy comes through in the images. My job is to make sure you’re comfortable, supported, and confident — no matter the forecast.

Tips for Preparing for a Mountain or Rainy Shoot in the Swiss Alps
If you’re thinking about doing a shoot like this, here are a few quick tips:
- Layer up – Bring a good jacket, wear layers you can take off or put on depending on the temperature, and don’t forget a change of socks.
- Footwear matters – Hiking boots, always – ideally water resistant or waterproof. You can bring dress shoes for a few shots if you’d like, but boots are part of the magic (and the practicality).
- Pack light, pack smart – Bring water, snacks, and a small towel or blanket. I’ll take care of the rest.
- Trust the process – Nature doesn’t always give us what we plan for, but it always gives us something beautiful.
Why Do a Couples Shoot in the Illiez Valley (or any Swiss Mountains)?
There doesn’t need to be a reason! You don’t need to be engaged, or celebrating anything. Maybe you just want a memory, a keepsake of who you are right now — in love, in motion, in the mountains.
Couples shoots in the Alps are about more than just the scenery. They’re about the pause. The breath you take together in the middle of busy life. The way you look at each other when there’s no one else around. The inside jokes, the spontaneous kisses, the muddy boots, the feeling of being small in a landscape that reminds you how big your love really is.

Making Time for Each Other in the Mountains
In our everyday lives, it’s so easy to get caught up in the rush — work, plans, to-do lists. But out here, surrounded by mountains and mist, that noise falls away. One of the most powerful things about these couples sessions is that they create space. Space to breathe, to reconnect, to remember why you chose each other in the first place. When A+C were hiking up that trail, soaked but smiling, I couldn’t help but think: this is what it’s really about. You don’t need anything fancy to feel close — just nature, time, and the freedom to be yourselves.
Why I Love Doing a Couples Photography Session in the Illiez Valley and Switzerland in general
The Illiez Valley is one of my favorite hidden gems in Switzerland. Tucked between dramatic peaks and dotted with alpine lakes, it’s wild, raw, and breathtaking in every season. Unlike more tourist-heavy areas, it feels peaceful and untouched — which makes it the perfect setting for a shoot that’s both intimate and adventurous. The landscapes here change constantly with the weather, offering fog-draped forests, moody skies, or the occasional beam of sun breaking through. If you’re dreaming of photos that feel organic and alive, this valley delivers every. single. time.
What You Can Expect When You Work With Me

Whether we’re hiking through the mist or laughing through the rain, I’ll be there capturing the real stuff: movement, emotion, connection. You’ll come away not only with images, but with an experience — one that reminds you of who you are together.
